As October turns into November, the souls of ancestors are released from the realm of Hades, a night is awarded for them to do as the please on October 31st and then on Nov. 1st All Souls Day, the spirits must return to the netherworld to face the wheel of reincarnation or face punishment if they have lived a life of debauchery. The point is that the spirit or soul would be judged on how he/she/it lived life. For the Shinigami it was usually a night of festivities unfortunately, they would still be on duty and at the call of Lord Death. Sometimes the festival of the dead became a war rather than a celebration. Spirits would stray and sometimes the demons that were unleashed from the other regions of Hades intended to hunt down certain souls for their own pleasure. The shinigami with the help of certain family members of the Grand Sugar Clan would assist in keeping the balance during this opening of gates. It was the family’s duty and their right to maintain order in the midst of chaos.*

*The white shinigami goddess, shook her head a bit to get the autumn leaves to fall off her silvery show white long hair. She looked at Daniel and Tetsu-Shiro* It that time again! We can go to the family parties as we’ve been promised but we must remember to keep alert at all times. *She would look at them* We must keep the vulnerable spirits safe and the humans must not attain harm during these festivities.

Easier said than done! *Tetsu-Shiro turns to looks at Momo Ginatoki. his normally red spiky hair was now a silver white spiked short hair due. His eyes went from a warm blue to an icey cold turquoise. In the Shinigami world he was the shinigami in command of the ice dragon forces and he was also Captain of Squad 10 in soul society. He was less playful and much more serious in this form.* You do realize that we can’t save every soul and human! Some of them fall of their own accord. Tch!

*a small black cat with bat wings flew closer to Tetsu-Shiro, his bell of death could be heard ringing from his neck every time he moved. Momo’s familiar was ancient but had always been a companion with her soul and he was now with both Tetsu-Shiro and Momo Ginatoki on most missions.* Nyan! Although we can’t save them all. It’s our duty to do our best regardless. Humans and some spirits are sometimes weak and the temptations the unleashed forces of the malevolent demons offer can be enticing to them. Are we not bound to protect those who cannot protect themselves?

*She caresses Daniel under his chin and stares at Tetsu-Shiro for a moment. She smiles and takes Tetsu-Shiro’s hand.* It’s our duty and our heart calls out to protect them. We can’t ignore our heart! Can we now?

*He listens to Daniel and then feels Momo’s hand in his. He turns to look at her and he falls in love all over again. He smiles at her* You’re both right! I just get grumpy sometimes. *he tilts his head and chuckles* Let’s do our best!

*Prince Koenma had been able to see them when they headed out with their teams and noticed they had gathered some of the stray souls that had been roaming around after All Souls Day. Prince Koenma put on his cape as he stood at the window of the Spirit World palace.* There’s a malice in the air. As if there are also demons lose that want to cause harm and penetrate the realm we are protecting. I need to head out there and make sure I investigate and gather some of these lost souls as well. I better call the rest of the crew. I’m sure they’ll want to work on this assignment. *He says sarcastically knowing full well they could be hung over.* Sigh! *he goes and purifies his pacifier and put sit in his mouth. He heads out of his chambers and into the human world to do work along with the others.*

*Gathering the straying souls that had continued to wander after the feast of souls felt like a never-ending task. The increasing number of souls that decided to stray and not return became a fast growing problem for the shinigami. Then there was the issue of souls looking to interfere with humans. He would let out a sigh but he understood this was his calling. He would use all the powers at his disposal to retrieve the souls safely if possible but there were times when he had to deal with souls that had deteriorated into hollows.* Guess I’m gonna have to fight! But I’ll protect the living! It’s not yet their turn to come to the spirit world. *he drew his sword as he approached a troublesome soul on the verge of becoming a powerful problem.*

*October had arrived silently, a light chill in the air, leaves turning orange and yellow and in Hades the spirits could be felt growing restless as they anticipated the annual opening of the gates. Daniel Kurou made sure to be on guard as this time came closer for them. He felt anxious since he had to leave his wife Cindy Cyan and his son behind while he fulfilled his yearly duties. He knew Cindy Cyan would give birth to the twins soon but he could not be there for their birth. He knew that Cindy Cyan understood but he still felt somewhat guilty. He sat for a moment to meditate, realizing that if he did not clear his mind for a while of this guilt that it would affect his work. He sat in one of the trees in Hades keeping an eye on the restless spirits.*

*Kyo Ichigo arrived and reported in to Lord Hadesu. He then noticed his nephew was already patrolling.* I shall join you depending on how long my mission takes and how far Lord Hadesu wishes me to take those crossing between realms.

Nyan! *he would look down and see Kyo-Ichigo* No worries uncle! Take your time. This is something we do every year. I can handle this. You just focus on getting them there safely, especially under the circumstances.

We hope to accomplish our next assignment and return to our duties for this month along with you and the others. *She looks at Daniel Kurou as she stands slightly behind Kyo Ichigo.* We aim to get the parties involved safely to their destination.

Well, they have until a little after All Souls Day to enjoy themselves. Samhain is such a beautiful event. But Halloween and Samhain are definitely two rough days for all our shinigami. We’ve always managed so we’ll do the same this time around. So uncle Kyo-Ichigo and lady Nel weren’t going along after all?
