The scratching gets louder. Ian’s flashlight flickers back to life, casting light on a human figure, its skin flayed from its body. It lets out another ghastly scream and runs with impossible speed to I, who stands confused to the side of the room. Before I can figure out what’s happening, sharpened fingernails dig into his throat, slashing it wide open.

Pel honks loudly and swings her sword through the monster. Instantaneously, it turns into dust and falls to the ground. The lights come back on.

I lies in place for several minutes – the group lacks the first-aid supplies to patch up his throat – and eventually he bleeds out. Moments after his eyes close, he, too, becomes dust.

    Ian’s flashlight flickers out.

A bloodcurdling scream breaks the ensuing silence.

Something brushes momentarily against Alex’s leg.

    The scratching gets faster.

The bacon smell intensifies, becoming so strong it nearly drowns out the coffee smell.

Something scratches at one of the walls.

A strong scent of bacon mixes with the coffee smell.

Something moves incredibly fast and silently through the beam of the light. No matter how you try to swing the flashlight around to see it, it eludes you after the first sighting.

    The smell of coffee intensifies.

The room darkens until it is impossible to see.

A faint smell of brewing coffee enters the room.

    [ROLL 1-20]

    [RESPONSE BONUS +3]

    [PREPARATION BONUS N/A]

[IF RESULT > 10+3, ADD ONE DEATH, REROLL]

    [FIRST ROLL: 2]

    [NOBODY DIES!]

The water – and ice – vanishes, causing everyone to drop unceremoniously to the dry concrete floor. There is no scent in the room and nothing has changed since before the water event.

A simple plate of rice, beans and fish appears at everyone’s feet, as well as a tall glass of water.

The strong scent of bacon enters the pockets of air moments before the surface of the water meets the ceiling.

The scent of sulfur vanishes. There are now nine feet of water in the room, and one foot of air remains.

The odor in the room does not change.

The water level is now eight feet. Two feet of air remain.

The water is up to seven feet. The sulfur smell becomes very faint.

Unfortunately, while Sulfur itself would be useful for this purpose, the infamous ‘sulfur smell’ is, in fact, the odor of Sulfur Dioxide – a chemical which, though it reeks to high heaven, is non-flammable.

    The sulfur smell grows stronger.

The smell of sulfur slowly returns.

The water is five feet deep. The room is half full.

Or perhaps it should be considered half empty.
