Arthur made his way deep into the forest, carrying a basket with him as he made his way to the sacred temple. His village was built on the edge of the forest, and the temple was a place of worship for them. It was there that the people believed that their God lived – a creature known as the Wrath Serpent. It had the lower body of a snake and the upper half of a human. The beast protected their village but it could easily turn against them. If the people didn’t take care of the forest or the land, or were cruel to each other then the serpent would strike in the night and kill those responsible. Arthur made a habit of taking an offering to the temple each week while he prayed, to thank the serpent. It had exacted justice by killing the man who murdered Arthur’s parents. The young man would forever be grateful to the creature. Finally arriving at the temple, Arthur placed the basket on the altar then knelt on the ground to pray, not realising he was being watched by the very being he was praying to.
