He bows deeply “of course” straightening up, he heads towards the the indicated house. After a few minutes of searching, he finds it covered in a thin layer of dust. Handling it carefully he returns to eni.

 

“Very well miss eni. Direct me so that I might aid you.” Damien chirped

“Suddenly I’m not so sure…..and I’m curious.  Perhaps you may be able to change things. Perhaps not. I’m open to being convinced.” He smiled broadly at eni, his eyes sparkling like frost in the sunlight.

 

Mind if i join you?”

“Not that ive seen. Might be on my back or something”

 

*Cass looked confused* “etchings? No… None”

 

“Yeah….i can walk through walls. You?”

 

“I got a few things. Sides, better to make friends than enemies” *Cass flicks a switch and lights come on. Heading down the stairs, she opens a box and takes out a package* “the food and water in this should last you three days, if you’re careful”.

 

“I don’t have much to spare….but I guess I can take a look” *she walks towards the back of the church and opens a door to the cellar*

 

“….” *Cass steps out slowly, ax still gripped tight* ” try anything and you won’t live to regret it ”

 

“And how do i know you won’t just clobber me when I do?” Cass replies.

*hearing a voice, Cass snuck toward the entrance to the main hall, and waited*

 

*Cass hears a light clattering behind her. It was the stones she’d rigged to the front door to act as an alarm. Quietly, she grabbed a makeshift ax and crept downstairs*

*listening, she hears loud, beast like noises. Yet as she scans the horizon she sees nothing. Walking to the church’s bell tower ,she opens a trap door and drops down into the small room that she used for her personal space. A bed. A few shelves. Bits and pieces. *Kukuri followed silently, even her steps made no noise. Her mind drifted to the past. How many times had she tailed people in this manner, only to drive a blade between their ribs At the first opportunity? Oh how she longed for those moments.

*kukuri stood and opened the door, smiling, though as usual it didnt reach her eyes* “It is quite alright. You have done me a great courtesy, after all”

*using a small bowl of water, kukuri washed her hands and face. Pulling a small ivory comb from her sleeve she tidied her hair but did not tie it back. She then sat, kneeling, legs underneath her, eyes closed, waiting for sunset*

“Fare well and good luck, Shin. I hope your path leads you to the answers you seek. Now I must wash, and prepare for dinner”

“I must stay here tonight. The elder has promised me a meal and a bed for the night. It would be rude and dishonourable to refuse such hospitality. I will leave early tomorrow”

 

“It seems likely, yet without knowing the bandits numbers, any attempt to stop them would be folly. This situation requires precision. A delicate approach, for now”

 

*kukuri nods* “the elder claims they have sent many to seek help, yet none have returned, and that they also have a local bandit problem. Perhaps there is a connection?”

“Many things. Who are you? How did you get here? Why are you here? How much do you know about the curse on this town?”

*caldera smiled . youre never alone in hell she thought, heading towards the nearest voice* “KEEP TALKING. IM COMING YOURE WAY”

“IS ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE. THERE ARE TWO OF US OVER HERE.  ” Caldera yells, picking her way through the debris

 

*opening her eyes, kukuri regarded the fox blankly* “a kitsune…..can you speak?”

 

*nodding and bowing, kukuri sat after hana left. Closing her eyes and kneeling, she began sending out little waves of energy. Not much, but enough to warn any nearby yokai of her presence. She was sure there was one somewhere in the village*

 

*Kukuri, removing her footwear, looked about the room and smiled. It would do. She turned to hana and bowed again.* I would gladly eat with you tonight. Your kindness is great.  *something had been tugging at kukuris periphery, however. It was again that sense of a familiar presence…..

 

“Blessings upon your family. You have my gratitude” *kukuri bowed low, then followed Hana to the guest house*

“I swear, on the name of my family, that i will do all I can to assisst you. Would you have me leave today” kukuri enquired. She was eager to make allies in this new world, as she doubted she would find her clan here, if any had made it back.

 

“Maybe I should go. If some unnatural force is at work I may be able to stop it….”
